Surprise visit by President Joe Biden to Honey Hut Ice Cream, Cleveland on Thursday

Reporters at the scene were eager to know how the president felt about congressional Republicans rejecting the creation of a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 Capitol attack.

Biden, famous for his love of ice cream, held up his cone and advised his colleagues across the aisle to “eat some chocolate chocolate chip.”

It was a joke.

He then added, “I don’t think anyone could vote against establishing the commission on an assault on Capitol that is the most severe since the Civil War.” I came to get ice cream, however.

Biden took another lighthearted swipe at Republicans during a speech at a Cleveland community college earlier on Thursday. Biden stated that no Republican lawmaker voted against his COVID-19 relief package (the American Rescue Plan), but that many have since praised the legislation’s benefits to their constituents.

Biden, holding up a card listing the names and addresses of approximately a dozen lawmakers, said that he was not going to embarrass them all.

The laughter of the crowd was infectious.

He continued, “It’s not like some people are ashamed.”
